American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
The ACLU is one of the nation's oldest and most prominent civil liberties organizations, having been involved in a number of landmark cases. The ACLU is primarily a public interest law network, but also does significant lobbying on legislation. While not a consistent defender of individual liberty, the ACLU has nonetheless been an important defender of free speech, cyber liberties, 4th Amendment rights and many criminal justice and drug policy issues. There are a number of ACLU student groups and state affiliates across the country. |
