The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, seeks an energetic, detail-oriented, and professional individual to fill the role of Paralegal and Office Manager for its Washington Chapter located in Bellevue. The ideal candidate will have a good sense of humor and the ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Prior experience in a legal environment is preferred. This important staff member will have the following responsibilities:

 

Legal:
-Proofread and cite-check legal documents.
-Prepare tables of contents and authorities for legal briefs. 
-Prepare affidavits for clients and expert witnesses. 
-Maintain case files. 
-Read and interpret court rules and determine compliance for filings. 
-Register attorneys for education courses; track and update bar memberships. 
-Track legislative updates throughout the session.

 

Office: 
-Help attorneys and other staff with special projects. 
-Manage law clerk schedules and plan activities. 
-Schedule and coordinate meetings. 
-Plan and manage attorney travel. 
-Answer all incoming telephone calls. 
-Greet visitors, guests, and couriers. 
-Receive and distribute incoming mail. 
-Maintain general office supplies. 
-Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 
-Bachelor’s degree. 
-1-4 years legal/office experience. 
-Experience performing legal research on Lexis and/or Westlaw. 
-High proficiency in word processing.
