SUMMARY:Tocqueville Forum - Assessment of Religion in America
DESCRIPTION:Widely considered as the new tome on religion in contemporary America\, Robert Putnam and David Campbell carefully examine those aspects of American religion that have made it unique among all nations: high religious observance\, high religious diversity\, and high religious tolerance. Professor Campbell will offer an updated assessment of religion in America since American Grace’s first edition two years ago. Professor Campbell is the John Cardinal O'Hara\, C.S.C. Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame and the founding director of the Rooney Center for the Study of American Democracy. Georgetown Professor Clyde Wilcox will offer his response. Professor Wilcox has taught at Georgetown for over twenty years and has authored\, co-authored\, and edited more than thirty books on religion and politics\, ranging from evangelical politics and the politics of the Christian Right to religion and feminism.
