Are the ideals of equality in tension with those of individual liberty? If so, what kinds of equality should advocates of liberty support? Socioeconomic equality? Equality before the law? Something more fundamental? Finally, in a society of free and equal people, how can we issue demands about social and moral rules without creating a standoff or coming across as a moral bully in a diverse world where people deeply disagree?
