Biography

David Schmidtz is Professor of Philosophy and joint Professor of Economics at the University of Arizona. He is author of Rational Choice and Moral Agency (Princeton), and co-author of Social Welfare and Individual Responsibility (Cambridge, a “For & Against” book with Robert Goodin). His articles have appeared in Journal of Philosophy, Ethics, and Political Theory. As of 2004, eighteen have been (or are in the process of being) reprinted. He co-edited Environmental Ethics: What Really Matters, What Really Works (Oxford) with Elizabeth Willott. He has just published The Elements of Justice (Cambridge) and has another book forthcoming on The Purpose of Moral Theory. He has lectured at over 50 universities, in 13 countries, on 6 continents.
